Rene Elmore and Shelby Ronea have more than a portrait to take away from their trip to Kansas. They explored graves at the Fairview Park Cemetery in St. John and honored Exodusters with commemorative markers. Outside of town, mother and daughter gathered soil from the ground where their ancestors’ homestead once stood.
