MAKING A HOME

Celebrating Collaboration and Afghan Culture in Manhattan

Saturday, May 20
12:00 – 2:00 PM
Blue Earth Plaza, Manhattan, KS

Sparked by a collaboration between two veterans, the Manhattan Afghan Resettlement Team (MART) is bringing together civic, religious and nonprofit leaders around a common purpose – assisting Afghan refugees seeking resettlement by keeping a promise made through unique bonds forged in war.

You’re invited to join us for a block party to welcome Manhattan’s newest residents and celebrate collaborative efforts in the Little Apple! Gather to enjoy traditional Afghan food, music and connection. The event will take place at Blue Earth Plaza, which is nestled near the Flint Hills Discovery Center on South 3rd Street.

The story of residents working across factions to make Manhattan a welcoming home is featured in The Journal’s Spring 2023 magazine. You can read the full story online or in the print edition.
